• I have been noticed that when I go over a hard bump or am turning or just driving on the freeway I get a cracking sound from the front of my dash near the windshield. I took it in last winter because when I would turn the heater on it would sound like rice krispies for 10 minutes when it was cold out. Now it is doing it in the summer.
Only happens when going over speed bumps (even slowly) or on small uneven parts of roads. Was wondering if anyone else had experienced such strange noises in the past when going over bumps. The sound doesn't seem too harmful and makes a noise in time with the back of the car going up a speed bump and back down again.

    • Try gently applying your brakes when going over bumps that you know will cause the sound. If the noise goes away with the brakes applied, it's your front calipers. There used to be a writeup on exactly what part to lubricate to stop the squeaking. I think it's where the caliper meets the carrier.

A common cause is the rubber swaybar bushings - they get stiff from either age or cold and when going over a bump they hang-up as the bar twists and then they suddenly release. Creates sort of a "graunching" sound.
